[Setting aside his phone, casual in his joggers, jumper and thick socks with his prosthesis off, Yang Cheng hunts Shang Chao down in their apartment.]
Hey, Shang Chao... [He runs his hand through his messy, overgrown hair, faintly flushing] There's going to be a New Year's concert. It's no Lucky Cyan, but. Do you want to go?
[ Getting used to the fact that Yang Cheng has a prosthetic arm
definitely has had a learning curve for Shang Chao, but now his eyes don’t
instantly go to it or linger for too long. It still makes his chest squeeze
because nothing like that should’ve ever happened to him. ]
You’re better at asking for things you want now, aren’t you?
[ Shang Chao smiles and the memories of the three of them in that
garage the way Yang Cheng just couldn’t be direct with his feelings and
wants back then… which isn’t so long ago at all for Shang Chao. ]
[Though Yang Cheng smiles back shyly, his blue eyes linger on Shang Chao's face in bold contrast, so unlike the way he used to skittishly avert his gaze.
He takes a step closer. Even as his smile slowly fades, he continues to look. Whenever they share a space, he's usually watching; he can't quite help himself. He understands that Shang Chao won't just vanish like mist, but he still can't believe his luck. Nothing good has happened to him without a terrible price; he wants to believe this is different. Reaching out, he clasps Shang Chao's shoulder with his only hand, and feels how in this world that contact gives him tangible strength.]
I made a promise. [To your ghost, he doesn't say.] To never hesitate again.
[ Shang Chao smiles easily still, the weight of the other's hand on his shoulder is warm and he resists the urge to just lean his cheek against his hand and rub it. That might be a little too much. He doesn't look away from Yang Cheng the words turning over for him again and again.
He's pretty sure he knows why he had made that promise. Of course, there's no way for him to be certain without asking it but it's something that if Yang Cheng had wanted it brought up he would've. So Shang Chao doesn't let on about it.
Instead of following the earlier urge to rub his cheek on Yang Cheng's hand he raises his own to cover his squeezing lightly. ]
It suits you but it's still okay if sometimes you need to think something through you know.
[He half-steps even closer still, and presses his forehead to Shang Chao's. If he had a right arm, he'd tangle his fingers in the soft fall of Shang Chao's hair. He just wants to be near.]
You'll tell me if I lose my way.
[When he set his festival lantern off with his worries about his future, Shang Chao found him. Maybe there's meaning in that.]
